Communiqué du 06/02/2008
It is the eigth season of the French Inline Cup series in 2008! This year, it will be held all over France, but mostly in the East part of the country (four stages); there will be three stages in West of France, one in the North and one in the South. Also, two stages will be part of the World Inline Cup as well. This prooves the FIC is definitivly a world wide contest, with marathons close to the biggest European countries (Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Italy) and included into the biggest inline speed skating event, the WIC!
The FIC season will start at the begining of March in Lille, North of France, for the Ch’ti Roller Marathon (March 2nd). Lille is not far away from Belgium and the Netherlands and some skaters from there could take the start either. The Ch’ti Roller Marathon is opening the first part of the FIC 2008, with five marathons till June... The skaters will then have to go to Nîmes, South-East of France, on April the 13th, for the second stage. These two first marathons are usually considered as some very technical ones, but also physical.
Back to the West then, for some of the closest stages of the FIC 2008: the Goëlo Roller Nature and Rennes sur Roulettes. The closest because both of them are taking place in Britanny and because they will be held in May: on the 11th for the Goëlo Roller Nature, on the 25th for Rennes sur Roulettes. But the two marathons are very different also... The first one is a 50kms race with many up and down hills, the second is a WIC race, quite flat, but very, very fast!
Talking about the WIC stages, the next one in the FIC calendar is the Roller Marathon of Dijon (June the 15th). This is one of the fastest too, with two long straight lines of about 800m and two big round around. The speed in the straight lines is always very close to 60km/h or more! That makes the race quite particullar for skaters (lot of laps) and for spectators (they can watch it very well).
One marathon in August, one in October
The FIC calendar then breaks from June to the end of August, for the international championships. But it comes back on August the 31st in Besançon, East of France, for the Besac Inline Cup: this is a quite physical race, with short but tough up hills, as well as many curves and corners which are able to do a selection...
The FIC skaters could take a hotel in East of France for this stage and the two following ones! Actually, they will be held in Pontarlier (the Trans’roller, September the 21st) and in Lyon (Lugdunum Roller Contest, September the 28th). The Trans’roller is now known at an international level: Swiss, Newzealanders, Argentines, Colombians, etc. have raced this town to town race – one of the most beautiful, with nice landscapes in the mountains and fast ground. The Lugdunum Roller Contest has the potential to become an international race also: it takes place in the city centre of the second French city and is typically a kind of competition for inline skaters...
The big finale of the FIC will be held, as usual, in Les Herbiers (Vendée Roller Marathon, October the 5th) on a fast but decisive circuit of 10kms. This has never been a “tourist stage” these last seasons, but the one which gave the FIC – or not – to the best of the season!
