French Inline Cup, stage 1: French supremacy in Rennes sur Roulettes
Communiqué du 22/04/2010

Cecilia Baena and Scott Arlidge (Powerslide/Matter World) won the first stage of the French Inline Cup 2010. But the Colombian and the New-Zealander are not the only stars of the international marathon of Rennes sur Roulettes. Besides, their French team mates Nathalie Barbotin and Ewen Fernandez took the race in their hands from the start to the end!

Sunny skies, sunny faces, more than 7000 skaters form the two types of races (the 21km and the international marathon), inline hockey and some street and pipe roller contests: Rennes was for a week-end the capital city of inline skating! The heart of the capital city of Brittany beat for a moment for the international marathons, which were also the first stage of the World Inline Cup 2010.

The men’s race started first, with an intense attack of Inigo Vidondo (Rollerblade Marianistas) after only one lap. The Spain athletes managed to stay ahead alone for about 15km, which is simply incredible! Ewen Fernandez joined him at about mid-race, and soon a group of five other skaters, including Fernandez team mates Scott Arlidge and Felix Rijhnen, Julien Levrard (LSC), Benjamin Douchin (ALVA) and Severin Widmer (Luigino/Rollerblade). Two laps before the end, Fernandez, Arlidge and Widmer escaped. Widmer, who was sick the three days before, only followed: he couldn’t prevent from Arlidge and Fernandez victories. The main peloton arrived few minutes later, with some of the main favorites Alexis Contin (LSC), Yann Guyader (Powerslide/Matter) or Nicolas Iten (Luigino/Rollerblade).

The women’s race was also quite fast, but it ended in a bunch sprint. All the race through, Nathalie Barbotin (Powerslide/Matter) realized an incredible work for her team mate Cecilia Baena. She could not have captured the victory without the essential protection of Barbotin, who also took the bronze of the competition! Giovanna Turchiarelli (Alessi) managed to capture the silver.
