Communiqué du 14/09/2002Stage five of the 2002 French Inline Cup
Silvia wins the marathon !
On the 7th and 8th of September the second annual "Grand Prix de
Bourgogne" was held in the center of Dijon, France. The race course
was a 2km loop on a large boulevard with a wide corner at each end.
The first day of competition, there was a time trial
team race of 7 km and the second day the international marathon.
The Rollerblade teams returned from Dijon with two victories
but also a few disappointments.
The time trial team race of Saturday was won by the five members
of Rollerblade France, in 12 min 47 seconds. Rollerblade beat the
young Mogema Vertical Line Racing team with 20 seconds advance
and the three skaters of Salomon, France. Rollerblade’s, women’s
team with Tanya Currell, Caroline Boué and Silvia Nino, finished
at a very good eighth place at the general ranking.
The RWC international marathon (class 2) started at 4 p.m. on Sunday
for 42 km (21 laps). In the women's race, Caroline Boué made the first
move with Linda Schellekens (le Cri du Kangourou team) in the early
part of the race. Silvia Nino and Caroline Lagrée (Salomon World)
managed to reach them, and the four girls started to open up a gap
for a brilliant adventure. Tanya Currell and Franzi Stampfli (who had just
arrived from the Linth marathon) stayed in the pack with world class
skaters Nathalie Barbotin and Andréa Haritchélhar (Salomon World).
Silvia worked hard to force the peloton to catch the four escapees. In the final
lap, Caroline Boué took the lead, until the last few meters. Silvia and
Caroline Lagrée passed her with almost 150 meters to go. Silvia, despite
stinging ankle pain, managed to get first place, and Caroline Boué
finished in a promising third place.
In the men's race, only part of the Rollerblade and Salomon World teams were
present. Arnaud Gicquel and Massimiliano Presti were still convalescing after
Annecy. There was only Franck Cardin and Pascal Briand for Salomon.
And, at the very beginning of the race, Wouter fell seriously and stopped
immediately. Kalon, Shane, and Fabien were helped by the entire French
Rollerblade team.
The Rollerblade team members attacked from the first to the last laps : Sergent,
Garand, Perthuis, Estrada or Esnault tried to escape alone or with skaters such as
Cardin, Deniaud (Salomon) or Cherdel (Levallois), and always with a Rollerblade
World team member. However, each time, the peloton swallowed them back-up.
In the ultimate curve, Benoît Perthuis took the lead, followed by Kalon and Shane.
The brothers were in good position but Franck Cardin and Pascal Briand passed
them and crossed the line victoriously, with Mikaël Lannezval (Salomon,France) in third place. And, Shane in fourth.
